What leaves your browser

Short version: your inputs never leave the tab. The host sees ordinary web requests, and one tool makes a request of its own when you ask it to.

What we do not collect

Gizmodi has no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics or tracking scripts, no advertising, and no third-party scripts, fonts or images. Nothing you type, paste, scan or generate is uploaded, because there is no server to upload it to: the app is a set of static files that run in your browser.

What does reach the network

1. Cloudflare hosts the site. Like any web host, it receives the ordinary request metadata for each page and asset you load: IP address, browser and user-agent, requested path, and time. Cloudflare processes that under its own privacy terms; we do not add analytics on top of it.
2. IP Lookup makes one request to 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare) to read your public IP, and only when you press the button. No other tool contacts the network.
3. The QR decoder is served from this domain. On browsers without a built-in barcode API, that file is downloaded once from gizmodi.com — never from a third-party CDN.
4. Regex Tester and Text Toolkit run patterns in a background thread in your browser. The script for that thread is another static file from gizmodi.com; your patterns and text are never uploaded.
5. PDF Merge & Split downloads its PDF library, another static file from gizmodi.com, the first time you use it. Your PDFs are processed in your browser and never uploaded. The other file tools (File Checksum Verifier, Image Shrinker, Photo Metadata Cleaner) read files the same way and request nothing. Link Inspector reads links as text and never opens them.

Cookies and storage

One cookie, and only if you ask for it. Turning on “Remember my customizations” in Settings writes gizmodi_prefs, which holds your tool order, hidden tools and category tab order. It is first-party, expires after a year, and is marked SameSite=Lax and Secure. It is read only by the page — there is no server-side code that reads it.
It is off by default. With it off, customizations live in memory and disappear when you reload. Turning the switch off deletes the cookie and resets the dashboard to its defaults.

Your rights

We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not build profiles. The only data Gizmodi stores on your device is the cookie described above, which you control: delete it with the Settings toggle or by clearing cookies for this site. If you are in the EEA or UK, that cookie is set on the basis of your consent, given by turning the switch on. California residents: there is nothing to opt out of, because nothing is sold or shared.
For any privacy request, contact privacy@gizmodi.com.

Children

Gizmodi is a general-purpose toolbox, not directed at children under 13, and it collects no personal information from anyone.
